Some of their oral history says they originated from Mamprugu (as many ethnic groups is Upper East say). They are most culturally related to the Talin people. Some of the oral history also points to an eastern direction.
The Nabnam are located inTalensi-Nabnam District of the Upper East of Ghana on the West bank of the Red volta. They speak Nabt. Their places of note include Nanguod, Peilung, Sakot and Kong. Peilung has a large market that attracts people from far and wide. Nabnamland is called Nabrug.
They are mainly subsistence farmers. They live in continguous villages with two paramount chiefs, one at Sakot and the other seated at Nanguod.
They believe in a chief god called Wonaap or Naayen and a plethora of other deities are worshipped. There is great reverence of ancestors. For the past ten years there has been a great increase in the number of people going to church, mainly women and children. Different types of demoninnations are represented.
They need the Bible to be translated into Nabt.
